I often get asked “Which has been your favourite Wedding to photograph?” and I reply honestly that I do not have a favourite, no two weddings are the same, each is different in its own right. However, Rob and Emma’s Lake District Wedding has to be the most extraordinary wedding I have photographed to date. Let’s face it, it’s not every day you get to work in a cave!
From my initial meeting with Rob and Emma I was gripped by their wedding plans. Having their wedding in a cave, a lake cruise on the beautiful tranquil Lake Windermere and celebrations in the quaint country hotel that is Broadoaks, I was hooked from the offset.
The first opportunity we got Sam and I trotted off up to the Lake District to find Cathedral Cavern, owned and protected by The National Trust in Langdale, and what a sight to behold it was. A huge imposing cave greeted us as we passed through the low, dark and damp tunnel that acted as it’s entrance, it was vast! Carved out centuries ago by Slate Miner’s this was Lake District beauty at it’s finest.
Rob and Emma’s day started bright and early, and as dawn was breaking I was setting off, it already had the signs of being a beautiful day. I was meeting Rob and Emma at Broadoaks Country House where they had stayed the night previous.
The day began with Bridal prep and as I arrived everyone was bustling around Emma and Breakfast had just been delivered.
Emma’s lacy topped vintage dress was sensational.
Not forgetting her much loved Irregular Choice shoes.
With Bridal Prep under my belt I wandered over to capture some image’s of the Groom Prep.
With everyone ready it was time to leave for the wedding. Rob is a keen rally driver, so it seemed only fitting that the Bride would arrive in his rally car.
Cathedral Cavern looked stunning, naturally lit by the sun beaming through the gaping hole. The artfully crafted aisle was lit by candlelight courtesy of Individually Yours. The setting could not have been any more perfect.
Next stop was a Lake Cruise on Windermere. It was a slightly windy cruise, but that did not dampen anyones high spirit’s.
The final destination of the day was Broadoaks Country House.
With the dining room decorated by Individually Yours and their fine, luxurious hand-made decorations, the room looked spectacular.
There was much laughter, many tears followed by more laughter. As nighttime fell the room came alive when Boombox Party Band began to play.
This really was an extraordinary wedding and a pleasure to be a part of.
